In relaxation rooms across France, serenity is now something you wear. And the French are totally here for it, trading their stress for...

...these next-level goggles! According to a CNC study (National Center for Cinema and Animated Images), a whopping 49% of French people tried VR in 2023. Long stuck in gaming territory, VR is finally breaking free and showing what it's really made of. Here's the kicker: while old-school meditation needs 20 minutes to chill you out, VR gets you there in just 5.
But how do you choose the wellness VR headset that's truly right for you? Among dozens of models, we've highlighted the Pico 4, but that's just the beginning...
Is this your next self-care essential?
With her wellness VR headset on, Sophie (name changed) finds herself floating above a crystal-clear Icelandic waterfall. She can almost feel the spray on her face, the thundering water drowning out everything else. The office around her? Gone. A daydream? Not quite, this is total virtual immersion.
Sophie's company recently hooked up their team with dedicated chill-out zones. Think lounge chairs, zen vibes, the whole nine yards. But here's where it gets interesting: sitting pretty on one of those plush sofas is a virtual reality headset. And trust us, that's no happy accident. Get this: research shows that boosting employee wellness cranks up productivity by 12%. So yeah, that wellness VR headset isn't just there for show, it's maximizing ROI on relaxation. Ten Pico headsets are up for grabs, ready for anyone who needs a quick mental vacation.
Power on that headset and boom—"it's the wow effect, these are real sensations, even strong emotions," warns the founder of SocialDream in a French region report. "First-timers get totally mind-blown. Your brain literally believes you're somewhere else." Adrien Sadaka, another VR wellness enthusiast, backs this up: "Everyone who tries a wellness VR headset remembers it forever—the impact is that intense."
Bottom line? The results are legit. A study by professors Xu, Khanotia, Juni, [...] and Walterson drops this truth bomb: "VR constitutes a means [...] to reduce stress experienced by young adults and students, which can ultimately improve wellbeing." Translation: it's your golden ticket to letting go.
Finding the right VR content for your Well-Being
As Sofian Nouira
emphasizes in an article dedicated to virtual reality,
"A VR headset is nothing without content." A reality that Bytedance's Pico 4 has clearly understood. Its compatibility with a library of over 35,000 immersive experiences makes it one of the best devices in its category. From paradise beaches to bamboo forests, mountain landscapes to oriental steppes... Each universe has been designed to trigger and offer a specific response.

Best virtual escapes for maximum zen
Like a virtual content jungle, the video library breaks down into several categories, each designed to match personal preferences. First up: armchair travel. Waterfalls, coral reefs, snowy peaks... Your brain can't tell the difference. Research backs this up—virtual nature immersion triggers the same response as an actual forest walk. Cortisol plummets, heart rate drops, endorphins kick in.
34% of french 16-24 y.o already use VR to explore the world. But here's the twist : they're exploring their inner world. "Virtual reality is still just a digital appetizer," say professors Adel Ben Youssef & Zekiri in their interview with The Conversation.
Surprisingly, virtual ocean dives are killing it in wellness spaces.
The trend started in Tulle (France), where the aquatic center has been offering VR shark swimming since July.
"If I hadn't looked down at my feet, I'd have sworn it was real," says 65-year-old Christine. But the wellness version ditches the Jaws-style adrenaline for something more zen.
"Instead of shark attacks, we go with manta ray dances," explains Jérôme Trarieux, digital mediator who also runs sessions in retirement homes.
"People instantly relax. The residents can't get enough."
Instant relaxation with your wellness VR headset
Coherent breathing, positive visualization... Soothing ambient music accompanies you through dreamlike settings. "It's like having a personal coach inside your head," laughs Fatima (name changed), HR director at a hot Parisian startup. "Except instead of sweating it out in a noisy gym, I'm chilling at the top of Mont Blanc." Lufthansa's already on board, their lounges feature wellness VR headsets to help nervous flyers relax. Passengers can even preview their destination before takeoff.
Then there are the impossible creations. Notre-Dame Cathedral springs to life at your touch, ocean depths reveal their secrets. "We keep people seated—nobody wants injuries," notes Rémy Marreix, who runs VR sessions at Tulle's aquatic center. Makes sense when the immersion hits this hard. "We run monthly sessions at the library. The hospital too, even the local prison," he adds. Virtual wellness isn't picky about its audience.
France goes All-In on virtual wellness
VR is literally everywhere now. Case in point: the city of Istres just dropped major cash on Nexus—a shiny new facility that's all about virtual reality and smart screen use. This municipal center is serving up structured VR experiences to get people clued in. "The whole point was making top-tier equipment accessible to everyone," explains Nicolas Davini, director general of services for Istres, "helping people get a grip on their screen time and find better balance..."
Schools are jumping on the VR Relaxation train

Plot twist: even the stuffy National Education System is getting with the program. Since September, students at Louis Bertrand high school in Val de Briey have been test-driving "VR decompression rooms" to beat exam anxiety, especially those dreaded oral presentations. "students now have AI and VR as their secret weapons for nailing public speaking," reports Louise Guyonnet from Le Républicain Lorrain. This move vibes perfectly with Health Minister Yannick Neuder's take: "Tech should free up care time, not replace humans."
Dominique Pon, general director of La Poste Santé & Autonomie, sees a strategic opportunity: "If we want France to be an attractive territory for these uses, we must be exemplary [...]."
This philosophy now irrigates the entire French ecosystem.
Claire Portefaix, president of Viatris, emphasizes within the framework of Major E-Health Trends 2025: "French patients won't pay out of pocket. We need public-private financing." A vision that places accessibility at the heart of wellness innovation.
Meanwhile in Rhône-Alpes, the Plovier facility is living proof of how game-changing this tech can be. They've teamed up with SocialDream, and residents are absolutely loving what they call "windows to wellness, evolution, and adaptability." The staff are blown away—this goes "way beyond just helping with disabilities," letting everyone catch a breather from reality. "It's literally transforming their daily lives," one caregiver shares, watching faces light up behind the headsets. The Rhône-Alpes region is backing these projects with serious funding, totally sold on the social impact.

Wellness VR headset: the future you wear
Five minutes instead of twenty. From Sophie's waterfall meditation to stressed students finding their calm, the revolution is here. Nearly half of France has already taken the plunge into digital escape.
The Pico 4 leads the charge—35,000 experiences in a featherweight package. From Lufthansa lounges to small-town libraries, virtual wellness is everywhere. That "wow effect"? It's not just for tech geeks anymore.
Ready to level up your chill game? Grab a wellness VR headset and watch your stress melt away. The future of zen is literally at your fingertips—or should we say, on your head!
